Privacy Notice

We believe a location app should be clear about what it handles, why it handles it, and the choices you have.

What this notice covers

This Privacy Notice explains how SpotTap and Nanrix Technologies collect, use, store, share, and protect information when you use the SpotTap mobile app, this website, or contact support. It is effective from 24 August 2026.

Information SpotTap processes

SpotTap may process:

  • Location information: latitude, longitude, timestamp, available accuracy, and route points when you save a spot or record a journey.
  • Content you create: spot names, notes, folders, journeys, and their relationships.
  • Account information: email address, password hash, authentication tokens, account creation time, and acceptance of our Terms.
  • Technical information: device-generated sync identifiers, app/platform/build information, request identifiers, and security or operational logs.
  • Support correspondence: information you include when you email us.

How information is used

  • to save, display, organise, and share your places and journeys;
  • to provide optional account backup, restore, authentication, and cross-device sync;
  • to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the service;
  • to respond to support requests and send account-security or password-reset messages; and
  • to comply with law or enforce our Terms.

Local storage and optional cloud sync

SpotTap saves core content to your device first, and you can use core place-saving without an account. If you create an account and use sync, your places, journeys, folders, and related data are sent to and stored on SpotTap’s service so they can be backed up and restored on your authorised devices. Signing out does not automatically delete local data. Deleting the app, clearing app storage, or losing an unsecured device can remove local data.

Location permission and background tracking

You choose whether to grant location permission. Foreground location is used to mark a place. Background location is used only while you have an active journey that requires it and your device permits it. You can stop a journey and revoke permissions at any time in device settings. GPS readings can be inaccurate, incomplete, delayed, or unavailable; do not use SpotTap for emergency response, safety-critical navigation, or any purpose requiring guaranteed location accuracy.

Sharing and third parties

SpotTap does not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. We do not share saved places or journeys with other users by default. When you deliberately use a share, map, email, or external action, the recipient app and provider process what you send under their own terms. Email delivery is handled only to operate account and support messages. We may disclose information where required by law, to protect rights and safety, or investigate abuse or security incidents.

Retention and deletion

We keep account and synced content while your account is active. You can permanently delete your account in the app or at our secure account-deletion page; we require your password before performing deletion. Deletion removes your SpotTap account, cloud spots, journeys, folders, sharing relationships, password-reset and refresh-session records, and sync operational records. It cannot remove content you independently shared with another service or information a provider must retain under law.

Security and your responsibility

We use reasonable safeguards including password hashing, access controls, authenticated service requests, and encrypted transport where available. No service, device, or transmission is completely secure. You are responsible for using a strong unique password, protecting your unlocked device, reviewing what you share, keeping software updated, and promptly contacting us if you suspect unauthorised access.

Children, changes, and contact

SpotTap is not directed to children under the age at which they can lawfully consent to data processing where they live. A parent or guardian may contact us about a child’s information. We may update this notice when our service, law, or practices change. For privacy questions or requests, email support@spottap.online.
